This is a Senior Counsel or Counsel position based in Houston, Texas on the Chevron Litigation Team, managing disputes, issues and investigations for our Oil, Products & Gas and Corporate businesses. Our team members all have expertise in litigation, arbitration and investigations and manage a wide variety of matters of every description. The position reports to Chevron U.S.A. Supervising Counsel in Houston, Texas.

Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:

  • Achieving results consistent with the Chevron Way, promoting diversity and inclusion, and maintaining the highest professional standards.
  • Managing a wide variety of U.S. and potentially international complex litigation, arbitrations and investigations.
  • Working with company businesspeople and outside counsel to develop and direct strategy consistent with business objectives and company litigation principles.
  • Contributing to the camaraderie and effectiveness of the litigation team and broader law organization.
  • Managing discovery and maximizing effective use of available in-house resources and technology.
  • Giving timely, fit-for-purpose oral and written advice and reports to business clients and law management.
  • Facilitating innovative resolutions to disputes, using ADR when appropriate.
  • Directing and participating in incident responses and investigations.
  • Identifying, partnering with and managing outside counsel.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor and Membership in Texas State Bar, or compliance with requirements for in-house practitioners.

  • Six or more years’ experience in litigation, with primary responsibility for significant claims and cases.

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and evaluate complex disputes and issues.

  • Premier written and oral communications skills.

  • Ability to be a team player.

  • Highly motivated self-starter capable of partnering with clients, other in-house counsel, outside counsel and professional staff.

  • Ability to effectively manage a high volume of complex and diverse matters.

  • Exceptional knowledge of law pertaining to electronic-discovery issues.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • First- or second-chair trial experience.

  • Extensive experience in complex commercial litigation, employment litigation, class actions, and environmental or toxic tort or products-liability litigation.

  • Experience with incident investigations.
