Corporate Demographic Survey
We thank all the corporate legal departments that have participated so far to help us measure and track diversity progress in the legal industry.
If you would like to participate, please submit your point of contacts here.
For 25 years, we have published industry-leading demographic information about the profession best equipped to spearhead greater diversity in corporate America: lawyers. Our data-driven approach holds companies and firms accountable—and illuminates opportunities for growth.
MCCA’s Corporate Demographic Survey is designed to measure how well corporate legal departments hire, retain and promote diverse attorneys over time and hold them accountable.
Data has been the foundation of MCCA’s work since we began in the mid-90s, and our evidenced-based approach to accelerating change remains central to everything we do. Now, as then, MCCA provides unparalleled research and data to encourage transparency and help corporate America pursue concrete change.
“As lawyers, we’re called on to be stewards of business. And to accomplish goals, we have to be open to deliberately doing things differently, by looking at what’s working and what’s not working—and adjusting our goals accordingly.”
— Duane Holloway, Senior Vice President, General Counsel, and Chief Ethics & Compliance Officer, U.S. Steel and Director, MCCA Board.
As we look ahead to our next quarter-century, we will accelerate the pace of change. We will be informative but impatient. We will not stop until our companies look like our country. We will help corporate America know better, and do better, to lead better.
How to take the survey:
- Submit your points of contact (POC) for the Corporate Demographic Survey HERE (we request only one person to submit all POCs).
- Ensure all POCs have added MCCA@confirmit.com, firstname.lastname@example.org, and email@example.com to their safe sender list.

We hope to count on your participation and support of this important initiative, as you are playing a crucial role in helping promote transparency and progress in diversity, equity, and inclusion.

IS THIS THE SAME SURVEY AS THE U.S. AND GLOBAL LAW FIRM DIVERSITY SURVEY?
No. The U.S. and Global Law Firm Diversity Survey collect data from law firms only. The U.S. Corporate Legal Department Diversity Survey is for corporate legal departments only. Although similar to the Law Firm Survey in format, the Corporate Demographic Survey is shorter, and the questions focus on the unique issues facing corporate legal companies.
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE IN THE CORPORATE DEMOGRAPHIC SURVEY?
Companies with attorneys in the United States may participate in the Corporate Demographic Survey. The company does not need to be headquartered in the US but must have in-house counsel in the US.
IS THERE A FEE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE SURVEY?
WHAT IF I CANNOT ANSWER A QUESTION DUE TO MY COMPANY’S PRIVACY RULES?
To the extent you are restricted from asking or providing any information that is set out in the Survey, please answer the questions to the best of your ability, respecting the applicable laws and policies. In such a case, please indicate the restrictions in your reply. You may use the comment boxes under the tables to explain the absence of data (for example, if the firm does not track data for a particular demographic category or there is a restriction that does not allow the firm to share the information requested). We encourage you to answer all your questions.
