Position: Corporate Counsel, Sales and Marketing

Description: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the Global Technical Center in Warren, Michigan three times per week.

The Sales, Service, and Marketing Group of the General Motors Legal Staff is looking for an energetic, highly organized, well-qualified attorney to join its marketing and dealer/fleet transaction team. This role provides comprehensive, enterprise-wide counseling and transactional support to sales, marketing, and operational clients of the business.

This position: (i) supports the mitigation of consumer-facing and compliance-related risks regarding marketing, promotional and communication activities, (ii) provides counseling and transactional support to the dealer network business team (e.g., drafting and consummation of asset and release estate purchase agreements, right of first refusal risk reviews, dealer diversity policy, program and investments, dealer vendor management and dealer transaction tools, etc.), and (iii) counsels and provides transactional support to the GM Envolve (fleet) team (e.g., drafting and consummation commercial, purchasing, rental and fleet sales agreements, service and warranty counseling, marketing reviews, etc.).

This role requires creativity, innovation, and an enabling mindset to help business clients design and implement business strategies and solutions that keep pace with the ever-evolving nature of the automotive industry.

Qualifications:

  • 3-6 years of transactional and business counseling experience in a law firm or in-house
  • Prior experience providing legal support in the automotive industry and to OEM clients, including exposure to franchise/distribution agreements, purchasing and commercial agreements, dealership buy/sell agreements, and automotive retail distribution and brand issues
  • Active license to practice law in Michigan or at least one other US jurisdiction, and (if not admitted in Michigan) the ability to qualify for in-house practice in Michigan
  • Successful in building and maintaining relationships, gaining credibility, and partnering effectively with legal colleagues and others up and down a matrixed organization using a collegial, collaborative approach
  • Superb oral and written communication skills as well as the ability to think critically
  • Substantial business acumen and judgment, including the ability to set priorities, align plans and work successfully with multiple stakeholders
