Samuel H. Gillespie III has been named senior vice president, chief legal officer, and general counsel of Unocal Corporation, one of the world’s leading independent natural gas and crude oil exploration and production companies.
Gillespie joins Unocal from the Washington, D.C. office of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher and Flom, where he advised energy clients and worked on a variety of international projects.
Previously, he was senior vice president and general counsel with Mobil Corporation, and accepted MCCA’s “Employer of Choice” award on behalf of Mobil in 1998.
Gillespie holds a bachelor’s degree from Middlebury College and a law degree from Vanderbilt University. He is a trustee of the National Judicial College and a former member of the ABA Commission on Women in the Profession.
