Lloyd M. Johnson, Jr. and Edna M. Messick have formed an executive search and consulting firm, Messick & Johnson. The firm, based in Jersey City, N.J., and San Francisco, will specialize in placing corporate counsel, partners, and mid-level associates in major corporations and international law firms worldwide, with a focus on recruitment of diversity candidates. Consulting services are also available for firms contemplating mergers and practice group acquisitions.
Johnson is the founder and former executive director of the Minority Corporate Counsel Association (MCCA) and the founder and publisher emeritus of Diversity & the Bar® magazine. He has extensive experience working in corporate law departments, including Hewlett Packard and Empire Blue Cross; law firms, such as Arnelle & Hastie; and the public sector as deputy district attorney in San Francisco. In addition, Johnson has helped to raise more than $1 million for the MCCA Lloyd M. Johnson, Jr. Scholarship Program, which promotes academic excellence and diversity in law schools by annually awarding $10,000 scholarships to 10 law students from disadvantaged backgrounds to help defray their education expenses.
