Profiles of Law Departments and Law Firms
Profiles by Diane Patrick
Introduction by I. Clayvon Lighty
MCCA® is proud to present profiles of our 2004 diversity award winners. Every year, we publicly recognize corporate law departments, law firms, and individuals for their inclusiveness efforts. In the pages that follow, you'll read one-page summaries of those honored.
We are proud of the core qualities that many of these award winners have in common, which include maintaining a commitment to inclusiveness; developing diversity strategies at the senior management level; aligning performance evaluations and/or management's compensation with their manager's diversity goals; and creating an environment focused on inclusiveness. Many of the honorees have also integrated diversity initiatives into their human resources processes, and they have hired, trained, and promoted people with various cultural backgrounds.
The awards were presented at five diversity dinners in the following geographic regions: Mid-Atlantic, Midwest, South/Southwest, Northeast, and Western. In the pages that follow, presented are the recipients of the following four awards: Thomas L. Sager, Employer of Choice, Trailblazer, and Rainbowmaker.
- Named in honor of the vice president and assistant general counsel of DuPont, the "Thomas L. Sager" Award recognizes those law firms that have demonstrated a sustained commitment to improve the hiring, retention, and promotion of diverse attorneys.
- The "Employer of Choice" Award spotlights industry leaders for their commitment to diversity and success in building and maintaining an inclusive corporate legal department.
- The "Trailblazer" Award annually recognizes outstanding individuals who have made extraordinary efforts to promote and maintain diversity in his/her corporate law department and the profession.
- The "Rainbowmaker" Award recognizes outstanding individuals whose advocacy supports a more diverse legal profession.
We encourage you to read the comprehensive summaries about the companies, firms, and individuals that were MCCA's picks for the 2004 top diversity leaders. In 2005, we plan to continue to publicly recognize companies and individuals for their commitment to diversity. If there is an organization or person you wish to bring to MCCA's attention, go to www.mcca.com for nomination instructions.
