Position: Corporate Counsel: Environmental Sustainability

Description: You will join Cisco Legal’s Regulatory Affairs Environmental Sustainability team, providing environmental sustainability counseling for the business and legal and compliance professionals regarding regulatory matters impacting Cisco, primarily in the Americas region.

You will advise on developments across a broad spectrum of corporate and product-focused environmental sustainability-related areas as applied to Cisco, including sustainability reporting, disclosures and claims, due diligence, materials, e-waste, eco-design, circular economy, and evolving sector topics, among others.

You will be at the forefront of emerging issues, partnering with Cisco’s Government Affairs group to help shape evolving regulations and working with Cisco´s Chief Sustainability Office, Finance, Supply Chain, Engineering, Sales and Corporate Affairs to maintain compliance in a very dynamic landscape.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Law degree (J.D. or LLM), with excellent academic credentials. You are a licensed attorney in good standing in one or more jurisdictions.
  • 5+ years of relevant in-house and/or law firm experience. Prior in-house experience with a public company is preferred, but we will consider candidates with demonstrated experience working with technology companies on environmental sustainability regulatory matters.
  • Knowledge of related sector topics, including RoHS, WEEE, REACH, eco-design and e-waste regulations as well as circular economy and sustainability initiatives.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Expertise in developing and integrating effective, efficient regulatory compliance strategies;
  • Proven ability to conduct careful and thoughtful analysis with a bias toward action, translate regulatory criteria into clear requirements for functional and business teams and weigh and articulate the risk and reward of various scenarios.
  • Knowledge of industry standards, activities and trends as well as prior engagements with leading standards and industry organizations and consortium.
  • Ability to concisely communicate (in writing and verbally) complex regulatory and business issues both inside and outside the company.
  • Experience in interacting with customers, suppliers, channel partners and/or other external stakeholders such as analysts, government and non-governmental organizations regarding regulations and compliance.
