Gail E. Sharps has been named assistant general counsel at U.S. Foodservice in Columbia, Md. Her primary area of responsibility will be in business transactions.

Prior to joining U.S. Foodservice, Sharps was a senior associate at the law firm of Blackwell Igbanugo, P.A. in Washington, DC. She was also a senior associate with Lewis & Munday in Washington, DC, an associate at Loeb & Loeb LLP in New York, and an associate at Kaye Scholer LLP in New York.

Sharps is a commissioner with the Equal Business Opportunity Commission in Howard County, Md., and she is a member of the board of directors of FIRN, Inc. She is also a member of the American Bar Association, the New York State Bar Association and the National Bar Association. She has presented lectures on intellectual property and securities laws issues, including “Intellectual Property Issues in M&A Transactions,” November 2003, District of Columbia Bar Association, and “Sarbanes Oxley: An Update,” February 2004, National Bar Association.

Sharps received her undergraduate degree at Howard University and her juris doctorate from the Washington College of Law, American University.
