Minority Corporate Counsel Association Announces New Staff Member
Aracely Muñoz Petrich Hired as VP of Strategic Development
WASHINGTON – The Minority Corporate Counsel Association (MCCA) announces the hiring of Aracely Muñoz Petrich as Vice President of Strategic Development. She will begin her new position on June 3, 2013 at MCCA’s headquarters in Washington, D.C.
As a senior staff member, Ms. Muñoz Petrich’s duties will include responsibility for developing strategic plans for MCCA’s future with support from other senior staff members under the guidance of MCCA’s President and CEO Joseph K. West. She will support the development of CLE program topics, preparation of program descriptions and selection of appropriate speakers for both the MCCA CLE Expo, held in the spring, and its Creating Pathways to Diversity® Conference, held in the fall. Muñoz Petrich will serve as a key resource to the legal community on the topics of diversity and inclusion, provide research support and act as a liaison and “good will” ambassador for the association with its member corporations and prospective members, MCCA Firm Affiliate Network and law firm prospects, other bar associations and consortia.
“Aracely is extremely active and well thought of in the corporate legal arena,” said Joseph K. West. “She is a thought leader on diversity and inclusion and has distinguished herself for her ability to organize and deliver on creative and meaningful programming while at the American Bar Association, and most recently at the Association for Corporate Counsel. I welcome her to the MCCA team.”
“As Vice President of Strategic Development, I look forward to working with colleagues and leadership to develop a bold blueprint for deepening and strengthening the research, education and advocacy work of MCCA,” said Ms. Muñoz Petrich. “Shifting professional prospects, career needs and changes in legal education demonstrate the need for MCCA’s continued leadership and I am happy to be in a position to contribute.”
Ms. Muñoz Petrich received a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from the University of Chicago and a J.D. from the University of Iowa. She is admitted to practice in Illinois and before the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois and the U.S. Supreme Court. Currently, she serves as chairperson of the University of Chicago’s Latino Alumni Network. She also serves as a commissioner of the ABA’s Commission on Hispanic Legal Rights & Responsibilities, as well as vice-chair of the Diversity & Inclusion Committee and member of the Ethics & Professional Responsibility Committee, both of the ABA’s Law Practice Management Section.
She was recently appointed to the Board of Directors of the Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund (MALDEF).
