David L. Cohen, Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Diversity Officer of Comcast Corporation, to Receive MCCA Lifetime Achievement Award
Washington, D.C. – MCCA, the Minority Corporate Counsel Association, announces that David L. Cohen, Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Diversity Officer of Comcast Corporation, is the recipient of its 2017 Lifetime Achievement Award. The MCCA Lifetime Achievement Award is presented to a leader who has made important and lasting contributions to advancing a society that fully appreciates, celebrates, and recognizes the value of diversity. Mr. Cohen will be honored on October 4, 2017, at MCCA’s Annual Diversity Gala, a red-carpet event at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City. He is being recognized for his vision and notable legacy as a change agent and his work to broaden opportunities for all.
Mr. Cohen has led the way in creating an inclusive and thriving workplace with a commitment to achieving a workforce that reflects the world we live in. Going beyond the walls of Comcast, the company is also actively promoting diversity in its suppliers and partners. Under his leadership, Comcast organized an External Joint Diversity Advisory Council of over 40 diversity and community leaders to push inclusion initiatives in the company’s workplace, programming, board governance, community investment and supplier spend.

Before joining Comcast in July 2002, Mr. Cohen was a partner and Chairman of Ballard Spahr Andrews & Ingersoll, LLP. Although a native of New York City, Mr. Cohen graduated with a J.D. from University of Pennsylvania Law School (summa cum laude) in 1981 and received a B.A. from Swarthmore College in 1977. From January 1992 to April 1997, Mr. Cohen served as Chief of Staff to the Honorable Edward G. Rendell, the Mayor of the City of Philadelphia.
Mr. Cohen is also Chairman of the Trustees of the University of Pennsylvania and its Executive Committee. He serves on the boards of the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce, City Year, and the National Urban League, and is Chair of the Corporate Advisory Board of UnidosUS, formerly called the National Council of La Raza.

Founded in 1997, the mission of the MCCA, is to advance the hiring, retention, and promotion of diverse attorneys in law departments and the law firms that serve them. MCCA furthers its mission by publishing research on achieving diversity and best practices in the legal profession, honoring innovative diversity programs with its Thomas L. Sager, Employer of Choice and George B. Vashon Innovator awards, and assisting diverse law students through the Lloyd M. Johnson, Jr. Scholarship Program. MCCA’s work has been recognized with awards from the National Minority Business Council, Inc., the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the National Gay and Lesbian Law Association, and the Association of Corporate Counsel.
