Rhonda Joy McLean has been promoted to associate general counsel of Time Inc. Her previous position was assistant general counsel. McLean conducts the legal review of all marketing materials for the 60 magazines that Time Inc. publishes in the United States and Canada, including Time, People, Sports Illustrated, Fortune, Real Simple, InStyle, and Essence. She also handles promotion agreements and participates in the shaping of national and international advertising and data privacy protocols for Time Inc.

McLean was one of three employees to represent Time Inc. in the first Breakthrough Leadership Program for Time Warner executive women at Simmons College in Boston. She is a founding co-chair of the Time Warner Women’s Network (TWWN), and a co-chair of the Black Employees at Time (BEAT), an employee affinity group with over 500 members.

Prior to joining Time Inc. in October 1999, McLean was the assistant regional director of the Northeast region of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) for nine years. McLean was also an adjunct professor at the City University of New York.

A noted public speaker, McLean is the current chair of the Yale Law School Alumni Association (YLSAA). In June 2004, she was inducted into the Greater New York Chapter of the LINKS, Inc., a 70-year-old international community service organization comprised of African American professional women. McLean serves on the boards of directors of the New York Women’s Foundation and the Better Business Bureau of Metropolitan New York. She has received numerous awards, including the “Black Achievers in Industry” Award from the Harlem YMCA; the “Woman of Power and Influence” Award from the New York Chapter of the National Organization for Women (NOW); and the “National Impact” Award from the Protestant Board of Guardians.

McLean earned her bachelor’s degree from Aurora University, and her juris doctorate from Yale Law School. She also earned a master’s degree in adult education and leadership development from North Carolina A&T State University.
