MCCA New Format and Venue for Annual Thomas L. Sager Awards
WASHINGTON D.C. – The Minority Corporate Counsel Association (MCCA) is pleased to announce it has opened nominations for the Thomas L. Sager Award. The award is presented to law firms that have demonstrated a sustained commitment to improve the hiring, retention and promotion of diverse attorneys.
In an effort to magnify the importance and national visibility of the award, MCCA will host the Thomas L. Sager Award presentation during the MCCA Diversity Gala at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. on July 19th. This promises to add an extra layer of excitement to an already highly anticipated evening which will honor former Attorney General Eric Holder with the 2016 Lifetime Achievement Award.
“The Thomas L. Sager Award embodies leadership, commitment, and a sense of duty, for creating change in the workforce,” said Jean Lee, President and CEO of MCCA. “The award was designed to recognize those firms and organizations that champion a more diverse and inclusive workforce in law firms. The tireless work and effort these firms perform in the pursuit of greater corporate diversity should not go unnoticed.”
The Awards will consolidate the five (5) regional awards into three (3) national finalists and one (1) national winner to be revealed during the ceremony at the Kennedy Center. All three national finalists will have their story told in a 2-minute video they will be asked to prepare, highlighting their firm’s diversity and inclusion practices, and the winner will give their acceptance speech in front of a one-thousand-member audience including more than 500 in-house lawyers.
“The Minority Corporate Counsel Association created this award to applaud the leadership and commitment of these law firms to change the status quo”, said Michelle Banks, Chairman of Board of Directors. “We’ve witnessed the progress and challenges faced by many firms in their efforts to become a leader in diversity and inclusion over the years. We salute them for being the change-makers that they are and for setting the bar high.”
Nominations opened as of March 21 and will close on May 20, 2016. Each law firm finalist will be profiled in Diversity & the Bar magazine, the official magazine of the Minority Corporate Counsel Association.
We look forward to reviewing all the nominations and to seeing you July 19th at our Diversity Gala.
