Morgan Stanley Named Employer of Choice By Minority Corporate Counsel Association
Washington, D.C. – The Minority Corporate Counsel Association (MCCA) has named the Legal and Compliance Division of Morgan Stanley as its 2012 Employer of Choice Award winner for the Northeast Region. Morgan Stanley was selected out of all the law departments of corporations across the Northeast United States for demonstrating a commitment to diversity and creating and maintaining an inclusive workplace. The company will be recognized at MCCA’s Diversity Honors Gala in September.
The Legal and Compliance Division (LCD) was named an Employer of Choice for creating an inclusive culture that celebrates and leverages the differences among its employees. Its Diversity & Inclusion Committee spearheads these efforts by focusing on recruitment, career development, and community outreach. This includes an initiative to promote mentorship and leadership among women; a Supplier Diversity Initiative that solicits the services of minority- and women-owned law firms; partnerships with local bar associations and legal organizations to facilitate the hiring, retention and promotion of diverse attorneys; and for bestowing its annual Leadership and Excellence in Inclusion and Diversity (LEID) Award on outside law firms.
“As a global financial services firm, Morgan Stanley’s influence extends far beyond its own walls,” said Joseph K. West, President and CEO of MCCA. “The Legal and Compliance Division’s commitment to inclusion has resulted in more and better opportunities for its own staff and for diverse attorneys in other organizations. This makes Morgan Stanley a true Employer of Choice.”
“We are delighted by this tremendous honor,” said Eric F. Grossman, Chief Legal Officer of Morgan Stanley. “It highlights the great commitment of our senior leadership and the efforts of the Legal and Compliance Division Diversity & Inclusion Committee.”
Morgan Stanley and four other regional winners will be honored at MCCA’s Diversity Honors Gala at Lincoln Center in New York City on September 11. The evening will begin with a reception followed by the awards program in the Starr Theater and a reception in Alice Tully Hall. MCCA will also recognize Diversity Innovators, corporate legal departments, and law firms or legal associations that implement outstanding diversity programs. During this reception, one individual will be honored with MCCA’s prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award.
Hosting the gala will be Sunny Hostin, attorney and multi-platform journalist. Hostin is CNN’s legal analyst and a contributor for In Session on TruTV. She is also an anchor on ABC News’ World News Now and America This Morning.
