MCCA & Davis Polk Announce Partnership to Develop Law Firm Best Practices for Diversity & Inclusion
WASHINGTON D.C. – This week, international law firm Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP sent a letter to two dozen chief legal officers of Fortune 1000 companies thanking them for advocating for industry-wide adoption of a standardized diversity survey designed by the American Bar Association.
The letter from Davis Polk Chairman Thomas Reid also announced a new partnership with MCCA to establish best practices and diversity metrics for law firms. MCCA CEO Jean Lee applauded the letter and underscored the importance of their new joint initiative to put action to the commitment of diversity and inclusion:
“I am proud and excited that Tom and the rest of the Davis Polk team have committed to working with MCCA to develop practical and effective best practices for law firms on how to measure diversity and inclusion.
- Women should not be penalized for taking time off to adopt and/or birth a child.
- Number of diverse partners evaluating attorneys coming up for partnership.
- Measure every associate’s work, exposure and access to partners.
“If we want better measurements for improving diversity and inclusion, we need to collaborate and encourage one another to share what they are and/or may not be doing. By sharing and collaborating on best practices, we can learn from and motivate each other, and develop infrastructures that go beyond the individual company. Collectively, we can impact the profession for the better.”
