Lawyers of Color Name MCCA President and CEO Joseph K. West To Annual Power List
Nominees to be Honored on March 18, 2015 in Washington, D.C. and Profiled in Lawyers of Color’s Power Issue 2015
WASHINGTON D.C. – MCCA President and CEO Joseph K. West was named to the Lawyers of Color’s Annual Power List. The Annual Power List highlights the nation’s most influential minority attorneys and non-minority diversity advocates. This year’s honorees will be profiled in the Lawyers of Color’s Power Issue 2015 and be recognized during a reception on March 18, 2015 at the Ritz-Carlton in Washington, D.C.
“Joe’s contributions to diversity in the legal profession have been extraordinary. MCCA’s diversity reports bring much needed attention to the disparities that continue to exist in the legal profession. We greatly appreciate Joe’s commitment,” said Yolanda Young, CEO of Lawyers of Color LLC.
Established in 2008 to report important news to Black legal professionals, Lawyers of Color is now a media and research company that focuses on all lawyers of color. Lawyers of Color has received recognition from the American Bar Association and the National Black Law Student Association, among others. The Annual Power List historically has been comprised of general counsel, law school deans, justice foundation leaders, law firm managing partners, and practice group leaders.

Joseph K. West has served as President and CEO of MCCA since 2011. During his tenure at MCCA, Mr. West has implemented numerous programs focused on increasing MCCA’s ability to expand opportunities for women and minority lawyers. He created the MCCA Academy for Leadership and Inclusion, a training program designed to identify barriers to inclusion in the profession and to eradicate them. Prior to joining MCCA, Mr. West served as associate general counsel at Walmart Stores, Inc. He has received numerous awards and recognition, including the 2014 Beacon of Diversity Award from the Black Entertainment Sports Lawyers Association.

The Minority Corporate Counsel Association (MCCA) was founded in 1997 to advocate for the expanded hiring, retention, and promotion of minority attorneys in corporate law departments and the law firms that serve them. MCCA furthers its mission through the collection and dissemination of information about diversity in the legal profession. MCCA takes an inclusive approach to the definition of “diversity.” Therefore, its research addresses issues of race/ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, disability status, and generational differences which impact the legal profession’s workforce.
