Apple

At Apple, Smita acts as product counsel for various Apple products. Smita analyzes and advises cross-functional teams (product marketing, engineering, compliance, safety, product documentation) on worldwide regulatory, compliance, and legal issues related to new and sustaining products.

Prior to Apple, Smita worked at two international law firms – Cooley in Silicon Valley and Kirkland & Ellis in San Francisco. At these firms, Smita’s practice was focused on technology transactions and she represented some of the world’s most exciting and disruptive brands and startups. She has also worked on several high-profile M&A transactions having a total value in excess of $10 billion. Prior to moving to the United States, she worked as a litigation attorney before the Supreme Court of India and other appellate courts.

Smita is CIPP/US certified by the International Association of Privacy Professionals and served as a “Young Privacy Professional Leader for the San Francisco Bay Area” in 2017.

Smita keenly follows developments pertaining to tech law and is passionate about diversity and inclusion efforts. Smita is on the boards of United Nations Women – SF, the Berkeley Law Alumni Association and the South Asian Bar Association. She is also a Fellow at the Internet Law & Policy Foundry.
