Martin R. Castro has been named vice president, external affairs at Chicago-based Aetna, Inc. In this position, Castro will be responsible for diverse markets, government affairs, corporate and community relations, and the Aetna Foundation, among other duties.
Prior to his appointment, Castro was a partner with Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal. He was also a partner at Seyfarth Shaw; vice president for business development and acting general counsel at Juritas, Inc; and a partner in his own firm, Castro Gomez Durbin & DeJesus, LLC. From 1988 to 2000, Castro practiced law with Baker & McKenzie. From 2001 to 2002, Castro ran in the Democratic Primary for U.S. Congress in Chicago’s 4th District, earning an endorsement from the Chicago Tribune.
A graduate of DePaul University, Castro earned his juris doctorate from the University of Michigan Law School.
